Secure transactions with AlertMe
As the volume of card transactions is growing, card frauds increases rapidly. The news about frauds and skimming has created distrust for card payments. It becomes more important for card issuers to be able to offer solutions that make the customers feel secure when using their cards.
Mirjam Ovelid, project manager at CEKAB, has been working on the development of our new security product AlertMe – a service that enables card holders to be notified via either text messages or e-mails as soon as their card is being used.
- With AlertMe, the card holder will have full control over their purchases and withdrawals. Every time you use your card in a store or ATM you will receive a message that contains information about place, date, time and amount. In case you are exposed to card fraud, you will be informed immediately and can block your card to stop further misuse.
If the customer doesn’t want to be notified at all transactions, it is possible to make adjustments to the service. AlertMe can be integrated in the card issuer’s Internet bank or other web portal, so that the card holder can log on and make their own settings. One can for example choose to only be notified when transactions has been made abroad, or when a purchase exceeds a certain amount.
- The main purpose of this service is to make consumers feel safe when using their card, says Mirjam. But there are also advantages for the banks. If frauds are detected too late, the fraudsters will have had time to make purchases or withdrawal for larger amounts before the card is blocked, which leads to greater losses for the card issuer.
